The Republic of Djibouti, an East African country in the Horn of Africa, has officially confirmed its participation in Expo 2027 Belgrade. The event will take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, with the theme "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All."
This country, located on the shores of the Gulf of Aden at the heart of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait – one of the busiest and most important shipping routes in the world – first participated in International Exhibitions at Expo 1998 Lisbon and has since been a regular participant in World and Specialized Expos. Djibouti became a Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member in 2007 to strengthen its involvement in these events.
Djibouti gained independence from France in 1977, and the following year, official diplomatic relations were established with Serbia (then Yugoslavia). The country’s major ethnic groups are Somalis, Afars, and Arabs, who speak Cushitic languages and Arabic and have distinct cultural traditions, which will be showcased in the Serbian capital in two years.
"Belgrade in 2027 will be transformed into a vibrant, creatively innovative workshop, driven by countries from all corners of the world – ranging from the exotic Caribbean, through the Asian steppes, to the fascinating Pacific. We are particularly excited that the Horn of Africa will be part of Expo 2027 Belgrade, and that our friends from Djibouti will have the opportunity to present the full spectrum of their fascinating culture in the heart of Europe", said Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of Expo 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
Expo 2027 Belgrade will host over 120 countries, international organizations, and companies, and it is expected that Serbia will attract more than four million visitors during the 93 days of the event.
