The Republic of Sudan, a North African country on the coast of the Red Sea, has officially confirmed its participation in the Expo 2027 Belgrade, with the theme "Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All".
The third-largest country in Africa by area first participated in International Exhibitions at Expo 1958 in Brussels and has since regularly participated in World and Specialized Expos. Sudan became a Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member in 2008 and will also participate in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
Sudan gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1956, and that same year, official diplomatic relations were established with Serbia (then Yugoslavia). The relations between Serbia and Sudan have traditionally been good and friendly, with two key agreements in place: the Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement from 1961 and the Air Traffic Agreement from 1964.
"We are happy that, in 2027, the northern part of Africa will be represented in Belgrade, and they are coming in a truly representative form. Sudan will bring its unique Arab-African cultural spirit to Expo 2027 Belgrade, and we look forward to seeing their perspective on play, music, and sports", said Dušan Borovčanin, CEO of Expo 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
Expo 2027 Belgrade, the first International Exhibition in the Western Balkans, will take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027. More than 120 countries will participate. Serbia’s capital is expected to attract over four million visitors during the 93-day event.
